Through a Social Justice and Art project, Transition Year students of Presentation College, Bray, Co. Wicklow have been exploring the issue of Child Soldiers. Having viewed the controversial ‘KONY2012’ viral video, rather than get into the various debates about Kony himself and the credibility of Invisible Children as an organisation, the group focused on the issue at hand and began asking questions such as: is it OK that this happens to thousands of children worldwide? Why is so little done to effectively prevent it? How would I feel if it happened to me?

Powerade Leinster Cup competitions

Preparations continue for the first round of the Powerade Leinster Senior and Junior Cup competitions. The Senior team await the qualifiers from the Vinnie Murray Cup. The fixture is scheduled for the 2nd February and will take place in Templeville Road Rugby grounds. This match will be televised by Setanta Sport. The Junior Cup Team face Wesley College in their first round match which is scheduled for the 09th February in Kilternan.

Pres in Basketball Finals!

Well done to the U19′s who are continuing their successful season with a win over Douglas Community School Cork in the semi-finals of the All Ireland Cup. In a closely fought and exciting match they eventually came out on top by 102 points to 99. The final will take place in the National Basketball Arena, date to be confirmed.

Leinster Champions

Under 19s Crowded Leinster League Champions!

The Pres Under 19′s were crowned Leinster League Champions this week for the first tie in the College’s history, with a 53 points to 51 victory over St. Fintan’s, Sutton.

It was a very exciting game with a nail-biting finish. St. Fintan’s had a throw in the dying seconds of the game to draw the match but the full time whistle was blown before the ball dropped in the basket.

The team was captained by Jeff McCann and Brendan O’Neill (both 6th year). Congratulations to all who played throughout the campaign. A special word of thanks to Mr. Fleming who manages the team and their coaches Marie O’Toole and John O’Byrne.

TY Musical – Huge Success

Our TY students were in recovery mode this week after a very successful production of ‘Hello Dolly’ in the Mermaid Theatre. This was done in partnership with Loreto, Bray. Our thanks go to Sean Leahy, Siobhán Gallagher and their team for all their hard work and patience since September.

A very special thanks goes to our own Ms. Mary Byrne who interrupted her retirement to co-ordinate on behalf of Pres Bray. Many thanks to all who attended the show and supported us through the whole experience especially Mr. Tansey and all the staff in Pres.

Next week sees our TY students venturing out into the wonderful world of work for their work experience module.
